The 24th ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting (24th ALMM) kicked off in Vientiane on the 15th of May.
The 24th ALMM, the 9th ASEAN Plus Three Labour Ministers Meeting and related meetings reviewed the progress of implementation of the ASEAN Labour Ministers Work Plan from 2011-2016, considered reports on the 12th ASEAN Senior Labour Officials Meeting and the 14th ASEAN Plus Three Senior Labour Officials Meeting, and the Vientiane Declaration on “Transition from Informal Employment to Formal Employment towards Promotion of Decent Works in Asean”.
Attending Ministers will also consider related action plans, implementation of the Asean Vision 2016-2020, Asean work programmes, and the promotion of cooperation with dialogue partners. Also on the agenda were an action plan of the committee with regard to the implementation of the Asean Declaration on the rights and promotion of rights of labour migration 2016-2020 and the identification of projects to expand the Asean Vision, action plan and cooperation with Asean’s dialogue partners – China, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
The above objectives are meant to strengthen the ASEAN Vision to 2025 and bolster efforts to achieve the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations regarding sustainable economic development and employment, labour productivity, and the promotion of decent work and justice in a practical manner.
